Naushad Ali, a giant in Indian cinema, mostly known for his music, was also a poet in his personal life. He wrote in Urdu and was highly respected as a poet among the lovers of poetry. There is spiritual expression and depth in his poetry, social and cultural messages; he wrote about love, wrote about protecting Indian heritage, especially Indian music. He was a highly appreciated poet in "mushaiyras" in many countries. He enjoyed the company of poets from his childhood, listening and reading poetry. His love for poetry is evident in his musical compositions. He was not only a music composer by nature, he was also a born poet. He had full command of language and poetic expression, he could quickly mold any thought into a poetic form. He was a perfectionist by nature; he would spend many days perfecting each poetic couplet, he would write it in many different ways, always struggling to improve it; as he did in his musical compositions. He encouraged young and upcoming poets, reviewed their poetry, gave them advice and introduced many good poets in the Indian cinema. He referred his passion for poetry as "Aathwan Sur" (eighth note)
